I always loved photography. Since I was 18 I’ve had a camera with me where ever I went. I didn’t really appreciate photographs though until I started my family. When my son was born we took pictures of his every milestone. I loved to photograph his curious and spontaneous moments. A few years later I had a daughter. She was different than raising a boy so I captured every special moment from her giggles in pigtails to posing her in her brother's baseball uniform. Soon my kids were seniors in high school and ready to spread their wings. Sure I cried when they left for college, but I knew that I had prepared them for an independent life and that they would have great opportunities coming their way. Lucky for me, I had photographs to look at to rekindle the spirit of their childhood. When I looked at the photos over and over again I knew why they had become so bright and ready to conquer the world.
I started Lightscapes Photographic Artwork in 1997, so I could tell stories with my camera. I wanted to share my gift of photography with other families. My goal is to enhance the lives of my clients with quality heirloom photography. In July of 2016, my world fell apart with the tragic and unexpected death of my husband, Paul. We had just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in May. Part of processing my grief was the remembering all the wonderful times we had together. Again, photographs helped with the loss. I built a ‘family memory wall’ in my bedroom with family pictures from the past years. The photographs help comfort me as I continue to mourn his passing. The lesson I learned from this was that life is very short and how an instant, like a tragic accident, can change your life forever. After a long mourning period, I decided it was time continue my creative energy on creating family portraits for clients… because it matters. The value of family portraits cannot be measured.
